Quiet Day At Undertown

Last Friday my sister and I took a rare and special day together, just us two, as she is retiring to Idaho (I know, kinda backwards, isn't it?) from Sequim, at the end of June.   She's lived here for more than a decade, and it's been great to have her in the same town, even if we were unable to get together very often during that time.  On Friday we played at Akamai, my favorite art supply store in Port Townsend, where we probably spent way too much money.   The weight of our supplies eventually sucked us below street level, where we took refuge at Undertown to slurp a gluten-free beer and sketch.

I will so miss her.

  1. Wow- it's like I'm there! And a bittersweet story... hope you can stay in touch using electrons . I know it's not the same, though.

    1. Thanks, Marian. Doesn't it seem I'm sliding irreversibly toward painting, away from sketching? When I gave away my paintbrushes and canvases in 1984, I swore this wouldn't happen.

You're right about the communication thing, though. I think my sister and I will talk almost daily on the phone and email a lot, now that she'll have so much free time. We certainly did before she moved to Sequim from Idaho years ago, before OMC replaced her life with years of overtime.

  2. It's also very dramatic somehow- like a set stage awaiting the actors.

    1. Either that or a stage in which the actors have just left, the last one walking away slowly, alone. And the audience is not sure whether to applaud or not.
